Scheduled
Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) have been identified as the two most
backward groups of Indian Society. They include all the castes, races or
tribes, which have been socially, economically and educationally backward. The
cell has been established to support and to bring students from such
communities in the main stream.
The SC/ST
cell of the college was established in 2014 with the purpose to empower the
SC/ST students in the government agencies and other sources. They are also
encouraged to enroll for career orientation programs, which would equip them
with the necessary skills to choose a career option.
Objectives:
v To counsel and guide SC/ ST
students and help them to manage academic and personal issues of college life
effectively.
v To ensure provisions
of an environment where all such
students feel safe and secure.
v To provide prompt counseling for
any emotional emergencies arising on account of any event at the campus.
v To provide the mechanism to
redress the grievance of SC/ST students, if any
v To ensure protection and
reservation as provided in the constitution of India.
v To arrange for special
opportunities to enhance the carrier growth
v To aware the SC/ST students
regarding various scholarships program of State Government and Government of
India.
v To take such follow up measures
to achieve the objectives and targets laid down by the Govt. of India and the
UGC.
Activities:
v To collect reports and
information of state government and central government’s orders on various
aspects of education, employment of SC-ST Students.
v To circulate state government and
Central Government’s decisions about different Scholarship programs.
v To communicate with the students
and motivate them for better future planning.
v To make a book-bank for SC-ST
students.
v To look for charity for food for
SC-ST students.
v It functions to ensure Equal
opportunities, Protection of Right and Full Participation (Act 1995).
v As a Grievances Redressal Cell
for the grievances of SC/ST students and renders them necessary help in solving
their academic as well as administrative problems.
v It continuously monitors and
evaluates the reservation policies and other programs intended for SC/STs by
the GOI and Govt. of Gujarat for their effective implementation at GGP,
Ahmedabad.
v It suggests the follow-up
measures to the administration of the Institute for achieving the objectives
and targets laid down by MHRD, GOI for the empowerment of SC/STs.
